Ryan A. Miller Ryan A. Miller, Ed.M., serves as Associate Director for Campus Diversity and Strategic Initiatives at The University of Texas at Austin in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement. In his role, he works with constituencies across campus on strategic planning, diversity education initiatives, campus climate incident response, and creating UT-Austin’s first institutional diversity plan. Previously, Ryan directed the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center at the University of North Florida. He provided services and education on gender identity and sexual orientation for the entire campus community by facilitating workshops and training sessions, advising student organizations and consulting with campus departments. During his time at UNF, he administered a campus climate survey with 4,000+ respondents, authored a campus climate report, expanded the center’s professional and student staff, created the Safe Space Affiliates program, created the center’s advisory committee, engaged the community in the center’s most successful fundraising campaign to date, and secured the center’s first endowment to support programming and services. Also at the University of North Florida, Ryan created the Intergroup Dialogue social justice education program, a component of the Institute for Values, Community and Leadership. He served as an adjunct faculty member in education, designing and teaching Intergroup Dialogue courses. Ryan received his master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education in higher education and bachelor’s degree in print journalism and Latino Media Studies from The University of Texas at Austin. He completed both degrees as a national Point Foundation Scholar, the nation’s largest LGBT scholarship foundation. Ryan has consulted, spoken and presented nationally, including at American College Personnel Association conference, Creating Change conference and as keynote speaker at the 2010 Queer Texas Conference. While pursuing his master’s degree, he worked at MIT in Institutional Research and undergraduate admissions. As an undergraduate at UT, he directed the Queer Students Alliance, named under his leadership the University’s Most Outstanding Student Organization among 1,000 groups. He also co-founded and organized a statewide LGBT youth conference and campus LGBT leadership institute. Additionally, he served as associate editor of The Daily Texan, director of Students for Equity and Diversity, director of Safe Space and co-facilitator of undergraduate Intergroup Dialogue courses on race and gender. Ryan held student staff positions at the Multicultural Information Center, University Interscholastic League, Diversity Education Institute and Gender and Sexuality Center. Ryan is also the founding co-chair of the LGBT Network of the Ex-Students’ Association of The University of Texas (Texas Exes) and has served as a board member of Oasis, the GLBT Center of Northeast Florida. |
