Aloha and Mahalo! The Point Foundation Hosts its First Ever Event in HawaiiJune 28th, 2006 The Point Foundation held an introductory reception for 18 Honolulu-area community leaders and philanthropists at the Ballroom of the Halekulani Hotel followed by dinner at Orchids restaurant. The evening began with beverages and pupus (hors d’oeuvres in Hawaiian) in the ballroom where multimedia presentations to the group included made-for-TV videos about TPF, a slide presentation about the history and growth of TPF by Founder Bruce Lindstrom, speeches by Point Scholars Tyler and Jacob, and finally a piano recital by Tyler. “Tyler was a perfect person to have at this event because many in the audience are supporters of the arts in general and specifically the Honolulu Symphony,” said Founder Carl Strickland. “We were lucky to have two talented and dynamic gentlemen drop everything they were doing and join us on such short notice for this event. We always try to match backgrounds and interests of Point Scholars to the audience,” added Strickland, underscoring how community interest in TPF came to a crescendo in a relatively short period of time. Founder Lindstrom added that, “we held this evening of introduction with the hopes that some or all of these individuals will become part of a host committee for a major fundraiser in Hawaii this winter.” The Point Foundation wants to thank Christopher Minnes for bringing such a wonderful group together to learn more about TPF, and also to thank Carl Strickland and Bruce Lindstrom for underwriting the costs of the entire evening including travel and accommodations for Tyler and Jacob.
